What resources are available for learning?
I believe most of you
already know the answer to this. I will list some of the resources that are
helpful for me to learn anything new or refresh concepts I used long ago to do
Mainframe Modernization activities.
1. IBM DevOps for Enterprise - This is your one-stop
learning shop for all things modernization related to IBM products on z. Check
on the Training, Resources, Downloads, and Documentation information available
on this site. You can download and try the free version of some products.
2. Interskill - This is one of the
official training partners of IBM and most of the corporates using IBM Z would
have a training partnership with Interskill. Most services companies have also
integrated their learning systems to embed courses from Interskill.
3. Google - It is the best source
of search and find for a specific topic to learn or understand.
4. Udemy -This has become my
new favourite to learn any new technology or concept. Many courses are designed
in such a way that you are a novice and know nothing about the topic and take
you through the learning path.
5. LinkedIn - LinkedIn posts from
your network (it is essential to expand your network and follow professionals
of interest) are an excellent source of learning. They range from a small piece
of soft-skill, architectural choices, links to guides that help to deep dive
into a specific technology, blogs on current trends, etc. It also helps you
grow your network and soft skills.
6. Webinars from Technology owners - There are several webinars that are run by technology-owning
organizations like AWS, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, etc. which target modernization as
well as provide the latest updates, case studies and architectural patterns.
These are rich sources of current trends. Follow their handles on LinkedIn or
check their websites for upcoming webinars.
7. O'Reilly - This is a premium
learning site. It has abundant content focusing on specific topics like
architecture, AI, ML, Cloud, etc. Please check if your organization has
subscriptions for its employees to this site.
Do you have anything
else to add apart from what I have listed above? I would like to know from you
and add it back to this list. This will help the audience as well. Please post
a comment on your thoughts and sources of learning.
Note: The views expressed here are based on my experience and are neither exhaustive nor may be in line with definitions of modernization available in the market.
